I think that Farscape was quite possibly the best cable television series to hit the airwaves in a very long time. It had:
Sadly, it was canceled in March of 2003. But, was that the end of this great series? No. The Sci-Fi channel has brought it back for one last hurraw on October 17th and 18th at 9:00 PM in a mini-series format entitled: Farscape The Peacekeeper Wars. Don’t worry if you missed the mini-series. Sci-Fi channel is going to replay the entire mini-series at 3:00 PM this Sunday, October 24th.
The series stars Ben Browder, Claudia Black, Anthony Simcoe and a host of other odd looking characters. Ben Browder, who plays commander Jon Crichton, Claudia Black who plays Aeryn Sun (pronounced, Soon), and Anthony Simcoe who plays Ka D’Argo have been with the series since its inception. As have an odd looking little puppet named Rygel, a huge puppet named Pilot and, of course, the living ship, Moya (webmaster's rendition to the left). The romantic interests in this show have mostly centered on Jon Critchton and Aeryn Soon. However, when they first met, they could barely stand to be in the same room with each other. But as the show progressed they slowly fell in love. And in the last scene of the last episode, Jon asked Aeryn to marry him. And, she of course, said, "Yes." How sweet!
If you’re not into all that romantic mush, how about humor? They have this one character named Rygel who flatulates Helium whenever he gets nervous or scared. This is hilarious. They’ll all be standing around talking about something really serious and the next thing you know, Rygel lets one go. So, everybody talks with really high, squeaky voices for a minute or two. I also remember an episode composed mostly of cartoon characatures of Jon Crichton and D’Argo chasing each other like the coyote and roadrunner.
How about action and excitement? These people get into so many skirmishes with other races, I wouldn’t even know where to begin. Of course, their biggest enemy throughout the series has been the peacekeepers, and thus the name of the mini-series: The Peacekeeper Wars. But, there are a ton of other races, including the Scarans, another of the really bad races.
I want you to watch this incredible show (if you haven’t already) on October 24th. Then, once you’ve seen for yourself how fantastic it is, I want you to write the Sci-Fi channel and demand that they bring it back!
